Aelpler Gruppe Swiss Club Spring Schwingfest

It was typical Spring weather with cloudy skies, changing to sunny skies to a few drops of rain here and there; warm when the wind stopped, but the wind made it rather cool and then after the Schwingfest was over and everything secured it began raining for a little while.  It was a very interesting, hard fought Schwingfest with many interesting rounds and the outcome in limbo until the last round.  At the end of five rounds five wrestlers were tied for second place. Logan Schallberger was called up for the announced seven minute Schlussgang with Andrew Betschart, but they separated with a tie.  As a result of higher points and participation in the Schlussgang, the judges declared Andrew Betschart the 1A Winner of the Aelpler Gruppe Swiss Club Spring Schwingfest. A delicious bratwurst and schueblig luncheon with all the trimmings was served inside the hall by the able and industrious Aelpler Gruppe kitchen crew.

In the afternoon, in addition to the continuation of the wrestling, kids participated in the steinstossen to test their strength between the 4th and 5th rounds and 5th and 6th rounds. Lydia, Karin and Yvonne Gwerder, sisters of the wrestler Marco Gwerder, presented wonderful songs and yodels before the 6th round and again later on in the evening during the dance to the enjoyment of everybody present

 

The judges of the day included Urs Gwerder, Teddy Betschart, Don Widmer, Ed Ott and Walter Haslemann.  Ed and Teddy traded off as referees on the Schwingplatz.

The crown girls in order were: Seniors: Janine Gwerder, Hallie Imhof, Mary Lou Haslemann, Christine Bruce, Natalie Schallberger, Kelly Ming (David Marchy had to leave before the award ceremony), Ariel Regino, Theresa Imhof, and Lynice Schallberger; Juniors: Chloe Lienert and Astrid Ehlenberger; Group A:  Ingrid Suter and Janine Gwerder; Group B: Lindsay Betchart.

Andrew Betschart was awarded a beautiful Treichle as the Champion of the Schwingfest which was donated by Walter Haslemann.  All Schwinger medals were donated by Kurt and Linda Clausen.  Paul Leimgruber was awarded an interesting drawing donated by John Ming. Jaydn Schmidig was awarded a nice wall hanger donated by Joan Kessler.  All the wrestlers received a chocolate bar or candy donated by Mariette Franke. Many thanks to the donors and those that made monetary donations.

A big thank you goes to everyone who attended the Schwingfest, the many people that worked so hard to make the park look so beautiful, all the people who planned and helped in the execution of the Schwingfest particularly the outstanding kitchen crew who provided a delicious luncheon and dinner.  The Ed Inderbitzin Orchestra played for the dance.
